Classification of vector bundles is considered an interesting topic both in geometry and topology. Characteristic classes sometimes help us to understand that. We will introduce some basic things in Chern-Weil theory and define some of the characteristic classes. As an application, we will see the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. Then we will study some relation between Euler characteristic and Chern character.
