In today's lecture, we will try to motivate the notion of K-stability, as an analogous condition to the Hilbert-Mumford criterion in geometric invariant theory.
While motivating this, we will describe how the scalar curvature of a Kähler metric arises as a moment map for an infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian action.
