In this talk we will talk about the classification of homeomorphisms of surfaces. First we will recap the classification of homeomorphisms of Torus.
Then we will state the generalized version of the classification for higher genus surfaces, i.e., we will describe what it means to be a periodic or a reducible or a pseudo-anosov mapping class element of a surface.
Along the way we will state a few results and provide sketches of their proofs.
