Recently, there has been a surge in the study of mapping class groups of weird-looking surfaces, probably, whose initiation is the Danny Calegari blog post: Big mapping class groups and dynamics on June 22, 2009. This series of talks will give an overview of the recent progress in big mapping class groups.
